Uhuru started off in a modest, rented house in Cape Town’s southern suburbs in 2000 with a staff of eight, including our four founding members. We had very little capital and no outside investors. What we did have, though, was loads of enthusiasm and the firm and steadfast belief that we would succeed – provided we worked hard and stayed committed.
This was daring of us given that the advertising, communications and publishing world was, and to a great extent still is, monopolised by the industry’s “big guns”. This did not deter us in the least. In fact, it motivated us to set and achieve our goals with even more passion and fervour. Today, we have larger offices yet still modest, state-of-the-art technology and formidable resources. Above all, we have a staff of over 30 committed, resourceful people and a growing list of great partners.
We remain determined to live by the values integral to our name, Uhuru. To maintain our independence, to enjoy our freedom – the freedom to create, freedom to communicate, freedom to express and freedom to choose.
TAKING THE HIGH GROUND
We aim to become the leading independent force in the advertising, communications and publishing in South Africa, Africa and internationally - where we are already making inroads.
An important part of our “mission” is our will and passion to inspire and help small and medium enterprises succeed in their particular fields. Our own experiences have formed our understanding of the processes and difficulties encountered by small and medium business when entering the marketplace.
